Day at the Legislature

2026 Day at the Legislature:

On March 9-10, 2026 delegates from all eight CHBA BC local associations will visit Victoria and meet with a number of key MLAs and Ministers to discuss what matters most to our members and to advocate for our policy priorities.

  • Meeting with Premier David Eby
  • Roundtable with Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs Christine Boyle
  • Fireside Chat with Housing Critic, MLA Linda Hepner
  • Additional meetings with key BC Ministers
  • Additional meetings with key MLAs from across the province
  • Reception with home builders, BC government leaders, and staff
  • Government Relations Training Session for delegates and Executive Officers

Our Policy Priorities

1. Reducing the Cost to Build Homes:

Many factors affect the price of a home, such as high interest rates, increasing regulatory complexity, and the above-average rise in construction costs in B.C. Increasing predictability, transparency, and accountability will help make homes more affordable for British Columbians and open the door to home ownership.

2. A Stable, Harmonized Approach to Step Codes:

Targeted adjustments to CleanBC actions on the BC Energy Step Code and the Zero Carbon Step Code provide a balanced path to emissions reductions while creating more stable conditions that support housing affordability, enable regional flexibility, and ensure consistent implementation across the province.

3. Streamlining the Approvals Process:

Building a new home has twists and turns along the way, but an influx of regulatory complexity and unaddressed permitting redundancies creates uncertainty and delays. More frequent changes to building code requirements, permitting processes, prompt-payment legislation, and other policies require builders to interpret and ensure compliance with these new requirements. This slows down the supply and can drive up the cost of homes for British Columbians. Homebuilders and homeowners deserve a clear, predictable, and streamlined process that reduces bottlenecks, minimizes pit-stops, and avoids pitfalls.
