Mission
The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia is the leading advocate of the residential construction industry across the province. We work to the benefit of our members and the public through excellence in government and public relations, education and building innovation.
Vision
The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia is built on a vision of housing excellence. We provide industry leadership that creates a professional, affordable, and sustainable housing environment.
Code of Ethics
The purpose of the Code of Ethics is to articulate and promote ethical behavior and values of conduct among members and directors of the association so that they fulfill their duty and render services to the community, profession, and fellow members in a fair and professional manner.
These responsibilities are freely and solemnly assumed as they form part of an obligation for members and directors of the Association.
Our President

CHBA BC’s 2026 President, Wally James, is the owner of Buccaneer Contracting, a Penticton-based residential building and renovation company serving homeowners throughout the South Okanagan.
Wally is deeply involved in the industry and the community. He joined CHBA South Okanagan in 2014 and has served in many leadership positions at the local level since then, including as President from 2022 to 2025. At the Provincial level, Wally joined CHBA BC’s Board of Directors in 2020 and has been a Government Relations Committee member since 2022.
He brings a unique international background to his role, having been born and raised in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Originally trained as a metallurgist in the steelmaking industry, he arrived in Canada in 1988 for “just one ski season.” This transitioned into a career as a full-time ski instructor for seven consecutive winters across both Canada and Australia before he found his calling in the trades.
He began his Red Seal carpenter training in 1995 at the age of 32. In 2006, he founded Buccaneer Contracting, specializing in custom homes, renovations, and wineries.
Beyond his professional life, Wally is a dedicated sports official, volunteering as a mountain bike and ski racing official since the mid-1990s. He is a two-time recipient of the Cycling BC “Commissaire of the Year” award and a two-time BC Alpine “Volunteer of the Year.”
When he’s not serving the community, association or working on a building or renovation project, you can find him and his wife, Barb, at the family cabin at Buccaneer Bay on the Sunshine Coast.
Our CEO

Darren Witt began serving as CHBA BC’s Interim Chief Executive Officer in December 2025. He brings strong industry experience, deep knowledge of our association network, and a proven commitment to supporting builders, renovators, and industry partners across the province.
With a background in commercial construction, his professional experience includes roles as an Architectural Technologist, general contractor, safety expert, and as former owner of the award-winning Bercum Builders in Vernon. He is the Past-President of CHBA Central Okanagan and was serving as a Presidential Appointee on CHBA BC’s Executive Committee; he will step away from this appointment during his time as Interim CEO.
