2020 Georgie Awards® offers new housing affordability category
BURNABY, BC (August 8, 2019) –The 2020 Georgie Awards® will include a brand-new “Provincial Award for Excellence in Housing Affordability” category.
The award will recognize a member who embraces leadership in improving housing affordability in British Columbia. This includes innovative approaches for any part of the housing continuum, and may be targeted to any ages and households in B.C. communities - from private market housing, to first-time homebuyers, to purpose-built rentals, to social housing, and a diverse range of housing forms. As part of the entry criteria, members will have to outline the action plans or strategies to improve overall housing affordability for the owners or renters and other considerations that make the project unique, such as research, timelines, and design.
“Housing affordability is a central value for our Association. We know there are members embracing innovation and affordability as part of their projects every day, and we look forward to recognizing this leadership with the new category,” says Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC CEO Neil Moody.
Open to all CHBA BC member companies in B.C., the Georgie Awards celebrate excellence in home building and renovation in British Columbia. To be eligible for a 2020 Georgie Award®, members must submit entries that were built, renovated, developed, created and/or marketed during the period of January 1, 2018 - September 30, 2019. The finalists and winners will be selected by a panel of out-of-province industry professionals.
Each year, the categories and criteria are reviewed and amended to ensure they reflect the housing market and industry trends. In addition to housing affordability, the 2020 Georgie Awards® will also include a new category for Best New Small-Scale Home up to 1000 sq. ft.
The finalists will be announced in November 2019 and the 28th Annual Georgie Awards® Gala will be held in March 2020.
