Our Message in Victoria: Certainty Supports Supply

At next week’s CHBA BC Day at the Legislature in Victoria, we’ll be demonstrating to the provincial government how predictability in the development process is essential to delivering more homes for British Columbians.

Homebuilders can expect their new projects to spend as much as 26 months in the development application process before construction even begins. This extended timeline exposes them to shifting costs and policy changes.

When development fees increase unexpectedly and in large increments, builders may need to delay or even cancel new projects.

Expanding in-stream protections to align better with this 26-month timeline would provide greater certainty for builders and help address B.C.’s supply gap.
