Northern Residential Heat Pump Top-up Incentive Introduced

As energy efficiency requirements for new homes increases and demand during renovations for the installation of cleaner heating and cooling technology grows, CHBA BC Past President, Joe Hart, has been consistently voicing the concerns of builders in northern communities about the higher costs associated with electrification, such as cold-climate air source heat pumps.

To recognize the higher costs associated with some cold-climate heat pumps, the BC Government recently launched applications for the new Northern Residential Heat Pump Top-up Incentive as part of the CleanBC Better Homes and Better Buildings programs. The new funding can save northern homeowners an additional $3,000 on the overall cost of a new heat-pump system.

The Northern Residential Heat Pump Top-up Incentive is a good start at reducing some of the financial barriers to achieving low carbon emissions in new homes.

British Columbians, no matter where they live in B.C., can also save an additional $300 on a heat pump purchase as the Province has removed the PST for the next five years. Combined with other provincial and federal rebates, people can now save up to $14,300 on the equipment and installation.
