Become Energy Efficient
Access Information, Incentives and Support to Reduce Energy Use
Various municipalities across B.C. offer rebates and incentive packages for new residential construction/renovation projects that include mid-construction rebates and additional dollars for reaching higher levels of the BC Energy Step Code. While we encourage you to research the incentives available in your region, here are some great sources for information to get you started:
FortisBC High-Performance Home Rebates
FortisBC has adopted the BC Energy Step Code as the energy performance standard for their New Home Program. Build a home more energy efficient than the minimum BC Building Code requirements and qualify for a whole-home rebate ranging from $1,000 to $8,000. (There is also a $400 rebate for Energy Advisor services) Bonus – even if the municipality has adopted the Step Code, builders can still gain access to the incentive packages through FortisBC!
City of Vancouver Heat Pump Rebate
The City of Vancouver is now offering a new heat pump rebate in partnership with the Province. The current incentive is meant for one- and two-family dwellings, and other ground-oriented homes. Details about central, mini-split, or multi-split systems are posted on the efficiencyBC website. The City of Vancouver is matching this incentive, offering up to an additional $2,000 for a total discount of up to $4,000.
Better Homes BC
A two-year program has been funded by the Province of British Columbia and the Government of Canada under the federal Low Carbon Economy Leadership Fund. The program outlines the incentives and rebates available for residential and commercial new construction, as well as an expanded Energy Coach service. All incentives are organized by region which makes the search quick and easy!
We would also encourage you to attend as many industry events as possible hosted by your local municipalities. Not only will you get the information first hand, but you will also meet and make connections with industry members in your area!
