Advocacy Takes Center Stage at Legislature Day in Victoria

On November 27 and 28, CHBA BC seized the opportunity to engage with key government leaders during its Legislature Day in Victoria. The event served as a platform for CHBA BC representatives to meet with Premier David Eby, several ministers, and MLAs across the province to advocate for the association’s priorities that are pivotal to the future of home construction in the province.

One of the focal points of CHBA BC’s advocacy efforts was the call for a more efficient and streamlined approval process. Recognizing the critical role that regulatory processes play in the timely delivery of housing projects, CHBA BC underscored the importance of simplifying and expediting approval procedures.

Increasing support for the CleanBC Better Homes New Construction Program was also called for. This initiative is a key component of the province’s commitment to advancing low-carbon home construction and incenting home owners to see the value of making energy-efficient upgrades.

Controlling the costs of building homes emerged as another crucial advocacy priority during the discussions. With the rising costs of materials and labour impacting the affordability of housing, along with increasing government-imposed charged, CHBA BC highlighted the need for collaborative efforts to address these challenges.

The outcomes of these important discussions will contribute to the development of policies that will support a vibrant and sustainable homebuilding industry in British Columbia.
