Provincial Home Builders’ Association Donates to Disaster Relief

Rebuilding After Devastating Flooding Needs Community Support

Burnaby, B.C.— The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC (CHBA BC) is sending much-needed support to the communities reeling from recent flooding with a donation of $25,000 to the Abbotsford Disaster Relief Fund and the United Way for BC Flood Response Fund.

“We have watched in disbelief as these unpredictable weather patterns have wreaked havoc on people’s homes and communities across the province. The regions of Abbotsford, Princeton and Merritt have experienced incredible devastation and damage and the $25,000 in relief funds will go to help those who need it the most right now,” said Neil Moody, CEO of CHBA BC.

As the leading advocate of the residential construction industry across the province, CHBA BC is encouraging other professional associations, industry groups, partner organizations and members to join hands in the relief effort and support the communities affected. The floods and landslides have damaged homes, killed livestock, and ravaged infrastructure critical for moving goods and services around the province. “We are shocked and saddened by the devastation causing many people, including some of our own members, to lose their homes and their livelihood and want to step up to help,” said Moody.

Many member companies have been assisting with evacuation efforts by sending crews to help and lending a hand wherever they can including individually donating to relief efforts. CHBA BC applauds the many herculean efforts from our first responders, emergency personnel, volunteers, the provincial government, and local groups who have been providing rescue support and services.

The natural disasters that have occurred will have lasting effects but CHBA BC is drawing on the resiliency and resourcefulness of British Columbians, knowing that brighter days are possible with cooperation and collaboration. “With more storm warnings expected in the coming days, we hope that those in the areas will remain safe and that relief comes soon,” said Moody.
