Home Builders Urge Mutual Agreement on Canada Job Grant Terms

OTTAWA, Wednesday, November 8, 2013 - The Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) urged the federal and provincial governments to find mutually agreeable terms that will allow the Canada Job Grant to be successfully implemented.  The CHBA views the approach and concept of the Canada Job Grant  as having strong potential to support the residential construction industry in addressing its skilled trades shortages directly and effectively.

“An employer-focused approach to trades training, while also respecting the role of provincial governments, is critical to support the economy’s critical skills gaps,” stated CHBA President Deep Shergill.

The CHBA welcomes a new approach to trades training funding that provides new options to industry.  “We are pleased with the proposed flexibility of the Canada Job Grant to accommodate the capacity of smaller businesses and organizations that want to do their part in trades training,” noted CHBA CEO Kevin Lee.
