CHBA BC meets with Ministers in Victoria on housing issues

Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC CEO Neil Moody, President Simon Howse and Vice President Gordon Bliss were in Victoria October 6-7, to meet with senior officials from the provincial government. The meetings were part of the ongoing government relations activities of the Association.

Moody and Howse began the two-day set of meetings calling on Jarrett Hutchinson, executive director and John Nicol, the senior policy analyst, of the Building Standards and Safety Branch (BSSB). Recent code changes and the new Building Act roll out were among the items raised by CHBA BC.

Hon. Minister Rich Coleman and deputy minister Jeff Vasey met with CHBA BC in the minister's Victoria office. It was a terrific opportunity to follow up on the recent CHBA BC's fall provincial meetings in Vancouver that were attended by the extremely busy Minister and to discuss housing affordability issues.

Howse and Moody also met with Minister Bill Bennett, Minister of Energy and Mines and Responsible for Core Review that offered another opportunity for CHBA BC to interface with senior government.

In a meeting organized by the Coalition of BC Businesses with Minister Shirley Bond Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training Minister Responsible for Labour and Minister Coralee Oakes, Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction Minister Responsible for the Liquor Distribution Branch to discuss labour and employment issues in British Columbia, CHBA BC was represented by CEO, Neil Moody. Later in the evening, a reception hosted by the Coalition was attended by more than 30 MLAs and Ministers that offered the chance to discuss housing issues and further strengthen the presence of CHBA BC.
