Georgie Awards nominated for two event awards in 2019

The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC produces its annual Georgie Awards program to recognize members and their projects across the province. We see the thrill of being named for an award first-hand when we release our annual list of finalists in November, and hand out the trophies to the winners in March.

This year, we experienced this honour ourselves with two award nominations of our own!

On March 4, the week of the Georgie Awards, we received an email from the Canadian Event Industry Awards that we were a 2019 National Finalist for “Best Event Produced By an In-House Team at a Venue or Corporation.”

This event nomination was for our 2018 Georgie Awards Gala, where we brought together a sold-out crowd of 650 guests for dinner, the awards presentation, and after party. Each year we pick a different theme, and in 2018 guests experienced a taste of Hollywood weaved throughout the evening’s events.

Neil Moody, CEO, and Laura Chok, Senior Director, Events and Education Programs headed to Toronto for the Canadian Event Industry Awards Gala on March 28, 2019, for the awards presentation. While we didn’t win in our category, it was an amazing experience to see our event—produced by our small but mighty team—compete head-to-head with much larger organizations and teams.

This month, our nomination streak continued when BizBash contacted us to let us know that this year’s Gala was listed as a top event in Vancouver in 2019! This debut list of 100 events includes annual meetings, conferences, industry gatherings. The Georgie Awards is one of 11 events within the Conferences and Business Events category, alongside prominent events such as We Day Vancouver, BC Tech Summit and the TED Conference.

According to BizBash, the qualifications include economic impact, buzz, innovation, and an event's prominence within the communities it intends to serve.

The 2019 Gala in March met all of these requirements and more. Our unique fantasy-themed event was a sold-out affair and featured entertainment by Acrofire. View a video recap of the 2019 Gala to learn more about the event.

With these two nominations in our pocket, we’re already preparing for a memorable evening in 2020. We hope you will join us on March 14, 2020 at the Westin Bayshore in downtown Vancouver to celebrate our upcoming winners and finalists!
