We need your input!
Want to learn more about Bill 26 and how it can help streamline timelines for your projects?
Join CHBA BC and Ministry of Municipal Affairs staff on Friday, December 10 at 10am (PST) for a free, members-only information session on Bill 26 and the changes it will make to public consultation requirements and decision making authorities for applications.
Bill 26 – the Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act (No. 2), 2021 was announced by the Hon. Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs on October 26, 2021 where it received first reading in the Legislative Assembly. In it are proposed amendments to the Local Government Act regarding public hearings and delegation of authority in addition to some other matters.
Implementing Bill 26 is underway, and Ministry of Municipal Affairs staff are in the process of developing guidance material for local governments by the end of this year.
These changes support the recommendations found in the Development Approval Process Review report (2019), and are an initial steps towards improving local government approvals processes. More steps will be taken in consultation with the public and affected stakeholders, like CHBA BC and its members.
