Postponement of the 2020 Georgie Awards®

BURNABY, BC (March 12th, 2020) – In light of the current potential risk of COVID-19, the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia (CHBA BC) is postponing the 2020 Georgie Awards® Gala.

The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) has stated that “mass gatherings can contribute to the transmission of respiratory pathogens, such as the virus causing the current outbreaks of COVID-19.” British Columbia’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry has stated in her 3:30 pm press release today that she is advising all mass gatherings over the size of 250 people to be postponed or cancelled until a later date and that “we have to do our best to slow transmissions here in British Columbia.”

Reflecting the guidance provided by public health authorities, and with an abundance of caution, CHBA BC has decided to postpone the 2020 Georgie Awards® Gala until a later date. This decision is consistent with the recommendations of PHAC and British Columbia Centre for Disease Control. CHBA BC will provide more information regarding the 2020 Georgie Awards® Gala as the COVID-19 situation stabilizes.

We thank you for your patience, as we work to support our health officials, for the protection of our members and communities at large. We also would like to encourage sharing this information with anyone else that you know, of our decision to postpone, in case they are not currently reachable via e-mail communication.
