In a regulated industry such as homebuilding, it is important to maintain a cordial and productive relationship with the decision makers in government. The Canadian Home Builders' Association of BC (CHBA BC) works closely with the British Columbia government, Home Owner Protection Office and BC Housing; to ensure the homebuilding industry and consumer are not adversely affected by new laws and regulations – or changes to existing ones.
The overarching goal of government relations activity is to create an environment of trust for a mutually respectful relationship where government officials in all areas can rely on the CHBA BC for expertise and technical advice. We constantly strive to be a reliable source of information, a source of new policy ideas, and a partner in satisfying the consumer.
Our positive interaction with government through regular face to face meetings with Ministers, letters, written submissions and connecting with MLAs locally will allow us to stay in the minds of government and help the association to achieve its broader strategic goals and be known as the go to association for matters involving the residential housing industry.
Representing nine (9) CHBA affiliated local home building associations located throughout the Province of B.C., it is important that individuals from our affiliated home building associations taking part in the government relations strategy, are fully briefed on relevant issues so that the association as a whole speaks with a strengthened voice that conveys a clear, unified and concise message to government.
Our local home building associations are kept abreast of developments and government relations’ activity through regular updates in the Provincial Update, detailing government activity specifically affecting the home building industry and general political news.
Government relations’ activity plays an important role in the success of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of BC and the residential construction industry. Together with our affiliated local associations and CHBA National in Ottawa, we are well positioned to carry a strong voice to government on behalf of all Members at the local, provincial and national level.
